VPN on your Smithbucklin Macintosh  

 

 

VPN Installation 

  1. Begin by downloading the VPN from this file path: \\cchinas01\isd\script\jaylin\Mac Documentation\SmithbucklinVPN-1.4.3.pkg.zip(Emailing the .zip file also works if the laptop is being worked on remotely). 

  1. You may be prompted with a “cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer”. If so, do the following 

  1. Navigate to “System Preferences” -> “Security & Privacy” -> select the option to “Open Anyways”.

  1. After installing the VPN ensure that it is added to that users “Login Items”. This can be done by going to “System Preferences” -> “Users & Groups” -> “Login Items”

Show or hide the length of time connected to the VPN 

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Control Center A grey and white switch button

  1. Go to the Menu Bar Only section on the right, click the pop-up menu next to VPN, then do one of the following: 

Show the VPN status icon: Choose Show in Menu Bar. 

 

Hide the VPN status icon: Choose Don’t Show in Menu Bar. 

 

 

Show or hide the length of time connected to the VPN 

  1. On your Mac, click the VPN status icon in the menu bar. 

  1. Do any of the following: 

Show the connection time: Choose Show Time Connected so that a checkmark appears next to the option. 

Hide the connection time: Choose Show Time Connected so that the checkmark disappears. 

 

Show or hide the connection status 

  1. On your Mac, click the VPN status icon in the menu bar. 

  1. Do any of the following: 

Show the connection status: Choose Show Status While Connecting so that a checkmark appears next to the option. 

Hide the connection status: Choose Show Status While Connecting so that the checkmark disappears. 

 

Connect to a VPN on your Mac 

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click VPN A blue square with a white globe

  1. If you’re using an L2TP VPN and need to switch to a different configuration, click the Info button  on the right, click the Configuration pop-up menu, choose a configuration, then click OK. 

 

  1. Turn on the VPN service you want to connect to.
